Who is behind ActiveLab?

ActiveLab is brought to you by ukactive along with founding partners AXA PPP and Tech City UK. We are kindly supported by a wide range of partners who will help you grow as a business.

How does ActiveLab work?

The teams go through a competitive application process and then commit to attending ActiveLab sessions between 29th November 2016 and 15th March 2017.

Over this time, ActiveLab will help you access expertise from the physical activity sector, tackle barriers to growth and understand how to expand overseas. You’ll meet with influencers, potential investors and buyers from the healthcare and physical activity sectors.  During the last two weeks you’ll have the chance to ‘soft’ pitch to industry leaders, who’ll provide feedback on how to refine your pitch. You’ll have the opportunity to pitch and demo to press, investors and potential partners at Active Lab Live! in London on 15th March 2017.

When is the application deadline?

The deadline to apply is 15th November 2016.

How do you choose which companies are accepted onto ActiveLab?

We’re looking for great founders with ideas to solve problems and create meaningful change for our priority audiences (children, families and the inactive population), or who can demonstrate innovation in re-imagining physical activity facilities or customer experience.

How long is the programme?

ActiveLab begins on 29th November 2016 and culminates in the Active Lab Live! event in London on 15th March 2017.

How much does it cost?

If you’re selected onto the programme, there’s no cost – only your commitment and time. We do ask you cover any travel and accommodation expenses you and your team incur.

Do you take equity?

No, this is yours!

Can you help with funding?

We’ll connect you with potential investors, buyers and strategic partners who may choose to provide funding for your business.

What happens at the end of ActiveLab?

The ActiveLab experience doesn’t stop at the end of the initial programme:  you’ll become part of the ActiveLab Alumni group where we’ll continue to help you move forward with your business.

How much access will we get to the mentors?

This depends on the mentor: some mentors will only be available via email, phone, video chat, and forums; similarly some will interact more frequently than others.

Do I have to be based in London during the programme?

No. We’ll hold sessions in London, Reading and other locations.

Mentor and tailored support sessions can take place however and wherever best suits you and your mentor or specialist partner: whether that’s in person, by email, through Skype or on the phone.

What is expected of me during the ActiveLab programme?

We can’t tell you what to do: it’s your business and driven by a passionate team. The only obligation is to participate in ActiveLab’s workshops and events.

Our aim is to work with your team to make sure you end with something better than what you started with. At the end of the programme, you’ll present your ideas to investors, partners and potential buyers during the Soft Pitch sessions and at Active Lab Live!
